England former cricketer and current cricket commentator Ian Botham said that “box office” Ben Stokes justify every currency more than 1.7 million euro ($2.1 mn) that England Stokes might collect in playing in cash-rich Twenty20.
England all-rounder had placed a record for an aboard player in the Indian Premier League T20 competition when RPS cased out for him at last week’s auction.
Stokes, 25, has risen through the ranks at Durham when Botham is the newly appointed chairman who finished his famous career with the country England. Botham is one of the best all-rounder players in his generations.
The 61-year-old former England player, who took 383 wickets, said that he was glad that Stokes has set to have new tasks with England as vice-captain to new Test skipper Joe Root.
Botham expressed in a news conference at Durham’s Cheater-le-Street headquarters that “He is getting for the IPL what most guys are going to China to play football are getting for a fortnight’s wages. Cricket needs to move and I think players deserve the rewards. It’s a precarious living. You can have an injury and never play again and I think people realise that now.”

Stokes’s dynamic style has been compared to Botham in his display; he said “I am very pleased for Ben. He is box office – that’s why he went for what he went for (in the IPL). His intention is not just to play, but to win, and that’s the kind of guys he is.”
“He is uncomplicated, what you see is what you get and he is a breath of fresh air, so I wish him all the best. And he is very loyal to Durham Country Cricket Club,” he added.
Meanwhile, Botham said that cash-strapped Durham would jump back from last season’s relegation to the second division of the Country Championship, imposed because of their financial problems.
